Fertilizer Crew Foreperson

The Fertilizer Crew Foreperson is responsible for all entities in their designated location regarding fertilizing and lawn/landscape quality control. This position would oversee the day to day operations in their respected zone covering all aspects of Fertilizing. In a Foreperson role it is expected to follow all safety rules and procedures. Being a Foreperson includes training new employees, working at or below budget, and providing a quality work experience. Must be hard working, possess management skills, able to make decisions, and work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Mix and manage chemicals (Turf)

  • Calibrate machines and perform routine weekly maintenance (Turf)

  • Ability to operate and care for all equipment

  • Ability to diagnose turf issues and solve problems

  • Ensure paperwork is complete and accurate

  • Ability to communicate with clients

  • Must perform at budget level

  • Follow basic safety practices

  • Ability to operate machine capable of loading material onto trailer

  • Ability to diagnose insects and diseases of plant material

  • Ability to manage multiple crews on site

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Maintain current Chauffeur License

  • Hold a current Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Card

  • Certified Applicator holding a 3A, 3B, and/or 6J license

  • Other licenses or categories may be required

  • 2-4 years of experience

Work Environment:

Time will be spent primarily at a designated location or office but is not limited to that location. The Fertilizer Foreperson will work in the field, office, and anywhere needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with hours varying based on jobs and work sold. The normal work season in the fertilizer crew leader role is from April through November. Average hours in this time frame are around 40+/- hours per week. From November to April is the snow season in which this position would be part of the snow program in the role of Snow Plow Driver, Salt Truck Driver, Equipment Operator and/or crew Foreperson. Hours in this time frame would varying based on snowfall and may consist of call-in work based on business need.

Travel:

  • Travel will consist of going in-between United’s locations and from employee’s job sites.
