Mercy Medical Center Clinton Senior Biostatician in Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Hospital Campus - Ann Arbor, Michigan
This position provides statistical expertise for the business intelligence functions of the Michigan Data Analytics team, serving 7 Michigan Trinity hospitals and the Affinia Clinically Integrated Network. The scope of work includes healthcare quality, patient safety, clinical as well as financial outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the selection and application of a wide variety of statistical procedures including but not limited to categorical data analysis, non-parametric methods, exploratory and graphical methods, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, multiple linear and logistic regression, mixed models accounting for the clustered nature of the data, survival analysis, time series analysis, clinical prediction rules, forecasting of future outcomes, risk adjustment using methods such as propensity scoring, inverse probability weighting and matching
Design and conduct evaluations of clinical performance at the individual practitioner or hospital level, adherence to clinical practice guidelines and evaluation of new clinical programs, diagnostic tests and treatments.
Although not the primary function, may occasionally work with clinical investigators in the design and analysis of their clinical research studies
Works primarily with large datasets assembled from electronically stored data from the health systems' information systems and electronic health record; insurance claims data
Serves as a biostatistical consultant for other department members.
Keeps abreast of new developments in statistics and regulatory guidance through literature review, attendance at workshops and professional meetings, and consultation with external statisticians as necessary
Ability to communicate results effectively to non-statistical audience
Collaborates effectively with team members and clinical investigators, maintaining good rapport and cooperative relationships. Presents occasional seminars on statistical methodology for the Michigan Data Analytic team. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
Communicates effectively and efficiently in English through oral and written channels, in order to understand key customer requests and summarize statistical findings for them within time constraints
Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMHS. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

Ability to build datasets by retrieving data from electronic data warehouses
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: A master's degree in statistics or biostatistics
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in areas such as health services research, population health, clinical research in academic medical centers. In contrast, primary experience in strictly basic science settings and human genetics would not prepare a successful candidate for this position. Demonstrated proficiency in SAS, R and/or equivalent programming. Experience with SQL and Tableau or Power BI a plus.
Experience in EPIC system is preferred
