Position Summary

The Department of Supply Chain Management in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University invites applications for a fixed-term research faculty position in the area of Supply Chain Digitization particularly focusing on end-to-end transformation, entrepreneurial activities and bringing technology to market. Candidates must have an earned PhD in any one of the following areas Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, another closely related scientific discipline. The position will be filled at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications and record of the successful candidate. This is a research appointment through the Axia Institute: Delivering Value Chain Solutions to be located in Midland, MI. (https://axia.broad.msu.edu/)

Supply Chain Digitization encompasses the advanced use of the latest digital and communication technology for supply chain optimization through integrating and automating of business processes. Supply Chain Digitization, therefore, can enhance the value chain by solving industry challenges such as reduction in shipping time and cost, reduction of inventories, improved material tracking and staging, extending the shelf life of products and product authentication.

Supply Chain Digitization may include, for instance, Block Chain, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Auto-ID, RFID, GPS, Telemetry, Enterprise Resource Planning, Warehouse Management Systems, etc. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a sustainable research program based on external funding that complements the Axia Institute mission and vision. Opportunities to design and lead the online executive education programs with Axia’s leadership team.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in collaboration with other faculty and the Axia Institute and bridge the gap between researchers and external private sector and public sector partners. It is expected and this individual will be highly capable to develop an externally funded program in the area of business analytics, IOT technologies, cyber security, and systems across the supply chain. Research projects and demonstrated experience that focus in the logistics or pharma industries as well as experience with industry-academic consortium development and management will be considered more valuable.

Those capable of creating and establishing the digitization portfolio and with a clear path to commercialization will merit special consideration.

Candidate evaluates will be based on their ability for entrepreneurial thinking and for obtaining self-sustainable funding. Candidates should have a record of obtaining external industry and Federal/State grant funding, particularly SBIR or equivalent grants. This position requires that a significant portion of salary support be secured from external sources.
