Our Manchester Campus houses our diverse vegetable farm and our other vocational rehabilitation options. We strive to provide clients with opportunities that align with their interests while providing a safe and supportive space for them to learn new skills. This unique opportunity will provide you with the experience of small diverse farm production, as well as, working with clients to help achieve their competitive employment or productive activity goals.Our Farm is situated on 62 acres of land with 1-1.5 acres in production. We have a small scale aquaponics system installed in a 30x48’ greenhouse, which operates year round. We also have three small hoop houses for season extension and limited winter production. Most of our vegetable production is tailored for our Ann Arbor Campus Dinning Hall. We also sell excess produce through two Farmer’s Markets in the Ann Arbor Area. We have a small budding orchard and we are planning to add more perennial small fruit and vegetable production and permaculture spaces this upcoming season. Our farm also hosts a gaggle of animals (chickens, bees, horses and goats) that are used for both production and therapy.ResponsibilitiesDuring your time at the farm you will be not only learn and fine tuning the skills you wish to cultivate, but you will also be working alongside clients to help them learn and meet their goals. Shifts are 7:30 am to 4:00 pmQualificationsAs an Intern you will be expected to have some working knowledge of agriculture. We don’t expect you to be an expert, but it is helpful to know the difference between a brassica and a tomato transplant. We also expect that you have some interest in social service and working with people in a rehab setting. It can often be a challenge to work with someone who has suffered a brain injury, so patience and understanding are required characteristics. We are looking for someone who can work outside in all types of weather conditions and is able to lift 50 lbs. Trainability and willingness to learn new skills is a must. We don’t expect you to have all the answer, but do expect you to have questions. As with most farm settings, unpredictability is a huge factor in our work, we are looking for someone who is comfortable with last minute changes and able to jump in wherever needed.
