Position Summary

A joint Research Associate (postdoctoral) position in the field of immunological regulation of the brain-gut axis is available at Michigan State University, coordinating collaboration between the Gastrointestinal Stress Biology Laboratory (https://cvm.msu.edu/research/faculty-research/moeser) and Neurophysiology of Stress and Learning Laboratory (https://msu.edu/mr2labs/).

Successful applicants will contribute to studies examining innate immune cell programming by stress and subsequent regulation of gut and brain physiology and behavioral and GI disease outcomes.

Individuals will have the opportunity to utilize a wide range of approaches including in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, optogenetics and immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, stereotaxic surgery, and mouse behavior.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a doctoral or equivalent degree, or be in the final stages of earning such a degree.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred skills and knowledge base include any combination of some of the following skill sets:

  • Molecular biology

  • Immunology assays

  • Histology and confocal microscopy

  • Electrophysiology

  • Mouse behavior

  • Mouse genetics.

Selected individuals will join a highly productive and interactive group of NIH-funded investigators to study mechanistic signaling between the gut and the brain in relation to disorders of the brain-gut axis including functional bowel disorders, depression, PTSD, and addiction.
