The incumbent will assist the laboratory principal investigator and associated personnel with an ongoing multi-state USDA SCRI grant funded project focused on the development of Solid Set Canopy Delivery Systems (SSCDS) for high density apples and other trellised fruit crops. The position will require both laboratory and field work in potentially harsh environments. In state and out of state travel will be required. Expected duties include assisting the Principal Investigator in coordinating with in and out of state collaborators in the collection and analysis of data, generation of grant reports and creation of written and online extension materials; performing experimental tests and assays and recording and analyzing results in order to provide conclusive data for research projects; assists in coordinating research and laboratory and/or field experiments in order to meet research goals; operates, maintains and monitors research instruments and equipment including experimental SSCDS emplacements; assists in compiling test results for future composition of reports, publications and presentation by other researchers; orders supplies; supervise and trains undergraduate/temporary employees. Flexible work schedule may be required to meet research demands during the field season.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in biological or agricultural science discipline; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a biological or agricultural discipline; required software experience: proficiency with word processing, presentation, and data entry and analysis software; familiarity with chemical safety and hygiene; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires a valid vehicle operator's license and pesticide applicator's license or attainment of such within 6 months of hire.
2+ years of progressively more responsible research and development experience in a scientific or engineering environment involving the design, fabrication and evaluation of prototype agricultural sprayers, nozzles, test beds using traditional and SLA/ PLA 3D printing techniques; experience working with solid set pesticide delivery systems; experience with the use of compact orchard tractors and tractor based air assisted sprayers; familiarity with pest management rules and regulations for specialty crops; experience writing research reports, extension bulletins and assisting in grant writing; experience supervising student employees; experience with AutoCAD, Fusion360 or Solid works, Image J .

Description of End Date
This is an off-dated position funded for 9 months from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
Summary of Physical Demands
Ability to lift 50 lbs from floor to chest height, carry 50 lbs for up to 30 minutes at a time, work on ladders intermittently.

Wear a respirator and spray or mix organophosphate or carbamate insecticides.
