Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit clinical development documents, including patient engagement materials, promotional educational pharmaceutical materials, clinical protocols, and ICF documents

  • Skilled in working with clinical and sponsor teams to extract information to use for plain language summaries or other patient facing materials

  • Able to understand complex scientific material and translate to plain language

  • Knowledgeable in understanding layout and formatting best practices for lay material

  • Reviews and addresses client comments and provides value-added suggestions

  • Capable of translating clinical trial scientific documentation into educational materials suitable for the general public to understand

  • Awareness of the regulatory environment around Patient Lay Summaries and similar documents, and/or a willingness to become a subject matter expert in this field

  • Proficient with styles of writing for various scientific document types and with client templates & style guides

  • Outstanding written communication skills, with demonstrated experience interpreting medical/ scientific information for lay audiences

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret scientific data produced in clinical trials (multiple design types)

  • Ability to develop or instruct development of concise graphs or images to convey clear messages to lay audiences

  • Leadership in a team environment including the ability to gain agreement/ decision across a functional team

  • Writing for a lay audience: journalism, community outreach, brochures, op-eds, blogs


  • The ideal candidate would hold a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in scientific, medical, clinical, or research discipline OR degree in education or prior teaching experience at the high school level or lower

  • Preferred experience with direct patient contact in the clinical setting

  • Experience with writing and editing text

  • Familiarity with clinical research/ medical terminology and understanding of clinical data

  • At least 3 years of previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred

  • At least 3-5 years of clinical medical writing experience

  • Exceptional writing skills are a must

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are essential prerequisites

  • Candidate must be an expert in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related word processing tools

  • Understanding of federal regulations, Good Clinical Practices, and ICH guidelines a plus
