Position Purpose:

This position provides consultative services to research investigators and study teams, on methodological and scientific issues related to protocol development and execution, including the development and promotion of standards for the design and implementation of research at SJMHS. The majority of work takes place for St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, but there is possibility of expansion of services to sites statewide. Some occasional travel may be required.

Job Description Details:

  1. Provides consultative services to research investigators and study teams in study feasibility assessment, study design (including sample size, power analysis and randomization), data management, data quality planning, and statistical analysis.

  2. Acts as a resource to administration, medicine, nursing, pharmacy and other health system disciplines interested in conducting investigator-initiated research. Serve as a biostatistical reviewer for the Research Committee.

  3. Prepares and writes statistical methods sections and data analysis reports appropriate for IRB proposals, grant applications, presentations and manuscripts.

  4. Interacts with external departments and organizations, in planning data acquisition from systems on site, as well as from other institutions.

  5. Uses a wide variety of statistical procedures including but not limited to categorical data analysis, exploratory and graphical methods, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, multiple linear and logistic regression, time series analysis, propensity scoring, inverse probability weighting, survival analysis, systematic review, meta-analysis, and non-parametric methods. Recommends analytical design for a broad range of data including large data sets.

  6. Provides mentorship and education for GME programs in the way of lectures related to basic statistical methodology. Conducts brief lectures, workshops and grand rounds as needed to foster understanding of statistical methods in clinical applications.

  7. Keeps abreast of new developments in statistics and regulatory guidance through literature review and attendance at workshops and professional meetings.

  8. Collaborates effectively with members of research teams, maintaining good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

  9. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

  10. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMHS.

  11. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
