More information about NSF International can be found at nsf.org.DescriptionManage day-to-day operations of the microbiology laboratory to meet performance goals in timeliness, volume, and quality and to encourage growth in laboratory and staff capabilities.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:•Select, develop and motivate and evaluate a competent workforce for both routine and non-routine microbiological work functions.•Oversee all operations to meet the needs of clients and manage the site in a manner that will meet quality expectations, service and cost control goals objectives.•Perform and develop advanced microbiological methods and techniques.•Develop and maintain annual operating and budgetary plans, including profit/loss analysis and submission of periodic reports. Establish appropriate metrics and provide ongoing follow-up and status reports to management as requested.•Participate in GLP or research studies and assure adherence to GLP, legal and quality policies and procedures by laboratory staff.•Manage customer documentation and database information. Create and distribute production reports and updates to management as requested.•Provide support to customers; address requests, answer questions and resolve concerns as appropriate.•Monitor staff workflow, timelines and metrics; identify potential issues and implement appropriate solutions for resolution.•Assure that all site operations meet all corporate and external standards for quality assurance and control.•Maintain policy and procedural documents for assigned location.•Identify and implement process improvements that reduce time, cost and improve quality.•Ensure all laboratory facilities, equipment, and instrumentation are maintained and in proper operating condition.•Perform other duties as requested.QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:•Bachelor's degree in microbiology and six years related work experience or a Master's degree and three years related work experience or a Ph.D.•A minimum of two (2) years managerial experience.•Strong written and verbal communication skills.•Knowledge and experience with laboratory QA/QC plans, manuals, and procedures.•Experience with PCs and Windows applications.•Understanding of, and experience with, laboratory information management systems (LIMS).•Familiarity with instrumentation for microbiology and molecular biology assays.•Experience with technical presentations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:•Advanced degree in a microbiology or molecular biology.•Work experience with a wide variety of microbiological and molecular methods for various matrices.•A minimum of five (5) years managerial experience.•Experience managing a growth oriented business.•Experience managing a group of 20 or more technical staff.•Experience in method development/validation.
