Working/Functional Title

TNRC Farm Manager

Position Summary

Duties for the TNRC Farm Manager include planning orchard maintenance programs for fruit crops, including planting, pruning, fertilizing, and pest management. Maintains research orchards; orders supplies and equipment; maintains farm inventory and pesticide use records; supervise farm staff. Maintains research station facilities; repairs and maintains building and equipment, upkeep and oversees the billing of dorm, conference room, labs, offices, and equipment. Supervises labor employees; works with faculty, staff and students to schedule maintenance activities related to experiments, and the logistics of conducting specialized plot treatments during the season. Prepares facility and grounds for station tours and events, and promotes local public relations. This position is located at the Trevor Nichols Research Complex in Fennville, MI.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which is normally acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Agriculture Sciences or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, management, and fruit crop production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; and a Pesticide Applicators Certificate within 6 months of hire.

Desired Qualifications

Two or more years work or educational experience with fruit pest management practices. Experience working with environmental and occupational health regulatory issues and a CDL License are desired.
